Alasdair
Fraser (fiddle) Ron Shaw (cello) Muriel Johnstone (piano)
Alasdair
Fraser has a respected place
among top musicians on both
sides of the Atlantic. He is
renowned for his spirited style,
vast repertoire and his powerful
flair for inspiring people
to dance. This video features
Alasdair in concert at the
Henry Wood Hall in Glasgow,
along with guest musicians
Ron Shaw and Muriel Johnstone,
performing a programme of dance
tunes, Gaelic song melodies, Highland
pipe-style tunes and Alasdair's
own compositions. We also hear
him playing on location on
the Isle of Skye, in Clackmannan
and in Aberdeen. Alasdair talks
about his approach to the music
of his native country and describes
for the viewer the people and
the places that influence his
playing.
Whether
playing haunting airs from
the Isles, rousing reels or
classically-styled pieces by
Scotland's noted fiddle composers,
Alasdair Fraser is a captivating
and exciting performer.
"Fraser
is incomparable. With the
piano and cello charging
alongside, the atmosphere
was wild and electric. The
good Scots folk of the 18th
Century must have had a rare
old time to themselves dancing
to this intoxicating music." Aberdeen
